for Next Midsize Model Due in 2013
Although a replacement for its midsize Sebring is still a few years away, we know one fact about the new model: it won't be called Sebring.
First introduced as a Chrysler model in 1995, the automaker is dropping the name, in part to distance itself from the ho-hum reputation that has been attached to the car over the past several years. Chrysler CEO Sergio Marchionne promises the replacement will be a "completely different animal."
"We've rolled up our sleeves and have torn apart that architecture," Marchionne told the Detroit Free Press.
Until Chrysler can ready a replacement -- which will utilize a platform designed by Fiat -- the automaker plans on revamping the current design. The successor won't arrive until 2013, but as Chrysler spokesman Rick Deneau told the Free Press, "we're doing things as quickly as we can."
